Tai Chi

Tai Chi

Tai Chi Chuan is an internal Chinese martial art that promotes relaxation, balance and circulation through a series of gentle movements. Tai Chi is safe for all ages and can be beneficial for most types of injuries. A student of Tai Chi learns to find strength through coordination and self-knowledge rather than muscle exhaustion or overuse. Tai chi limits excessive stress on muscles and joints and allows for appropriate use of the musculature. When learning Tai Chi, patients become aware of their best posture and most effective strategies for movement. Benefits of Tai Chi include:

  • Improved balance
  • Improved flexibility
  • Stress reduction
  • Improved focus and attention
  • Increased muscle strength and endurance
  • Increased energy
  • Improved agility
  • Improved bone strength
  • Increased aerobic capacity
  • Reduced risk of falls
  • Pain reduction
  • Improved sleep

Tai Chi requires no special equipment or clothing and may be practiced alone, with a teacher, or in a group setting. Contact me to join my weekly tai chi class in Prospect Park.
